Participation of Associate Professor Yuliia Fernos in the International Training Course “European Practices of Research Excellence in the Digital Era”
Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian and Foreign Languages at Uman National University, Yuliia Fernos, took part in the international training course “European Practices of Research Excellence in the Digital Era”, aimed at enhancing the quality of research activity and integrating European standards into contemporary academic practice.
The course programme focused on deepening theoretical knowledge and developing practical skills in the areas of open science, research data management, academic writing, research communication, as well as the use of modern digital tools in scholarly activity. Participants became acquainted with European approaches to research organisation, the principles of FAIR data management, and researcher support tools, in particular, the bibliographic reference manager Zotero.
Of particular professional interest for Yuliia Fernos, as a philologist, was a lecture on academic writing and the requirements for preparing research articles in accordance with European standards, delivered by Oleksandr Kubatko, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Administration at Sumy State University. The lecture provided an in-depth overview of the structure of a scholarly publication, principles of logical text organisation, requirements of academic integrity, proper use of sources, as well as the specifics of preparing manuscripts for submission to international peer-reviewed journals. Especially valuable were the lecturer’s practical recommendations, given his experience as an editor of a journal indexed in the Scopus database and his extensive background in academic writing and publishing.
The knowledge and skills acquired during the course will contribute to improving the quality of the associate professor’s research and teaching activities, as well as to the implementation of European practices of scholarly communication in the training of higher education students, particularly within the course “Fundamentals of Academic Communication in a Foreign Language.”
